Hinduism did not name itself. The name comes from the Sanskrit word for the river Sindhu. When people from Arabia traveled to India, they called the people on the other side of the river, Hindus.

The Rig Veda is a very holy text of Hinduism and is one of the oldest known books in the world. This makes Hinduism very unique.

Hinduism is the third most popular religion in the world today, after Islam and Christianity. It has over one billion followers. It is however the largest polytheistic religion in the world.
